The ground begins to shake as if an earthquake was beginning and a cloud of smoke shoots up due to an explosion at the construction site. A crane falls apart and as people in panic leave the restaurant the strange one calmly sits and pays for his sandwich. He slowly gathers his possessions and heads toward the construction site. He makes a call saying the words “It has arrived” as the scene finishes.

The next scene takes place at the FBI building, Peter barges in to find Olivia (Anna Torv). He is frustrated that his father would not let him sleep all night because of his constant talking. Peter angrily explains that he is not needed in their investigations and that he is only a babysitter for his father.

The crew is briefed by Broyles (Lamar Reddick) at a warehouse about the incident at the construction site. He wants them to discover the real cause of the explosion as the cover story is a gas pipe exploding underground causing the madness.

An oval somewhat bullet shaped metal object is sitting on the tabling while constantly vibrating as Broyles explains that it came from the ground and it is unknown how it got there. It seems that Walter Bishop is familiar with the object and explains that he may know what it is though he cannot talk of it yet. Broyles explains that a similar phenomenon occurred in 1987 and to seek out the man behind the former investigation.

Peter explains to Olivia that this is his last investigation and after that he is gone.

The man who conducted the former investigation shows pictures of it to Olivia confirming the similarities. He also explains to her that a short time after discovering the object there was a huge explosion and the egg disappeared.

Outside the warehouse, an unidentified man gets out of a car with a weapon taking out the FBI guard. He invades the lab, causing a ruckus along the way demanding the location of the object.

The unidentified man with a hi-tech gun looking weapon arrives at Jacobson’s house (the former investigator) and kills him after attaining the information he requests.

Broyles gets a call.

At Harvard, Walter is acting strangely, Peter leaves the lab and Dr. Bishop jams a syringe in Astrids neck temporarily knocking her out. When Peter returns to th the lab he finds Astrid on the ground while his father and the egg are no where to be found.

The eyebrow less bald man and Walter are seen at the diner having a discussion over a root beer float. Walter is thanked by the man for securing the object, and the man explains that he can not come in contact with it himself.

Peter and Olivia pay Walter a visit as he was picked up earlier on the highway. He refuses to tell them where he hid the object. He explains that he needs to keep it safe for a few more hours and that after that he will explain what is going on leaving the crew clueless. He also indicate that he has met with the eyebrow less bald man and Peter believes him to be delusional making up stories. Peter so infuriated by his fathers words barges out explaining that he will be leaving.

At the lab, Peter goes to gather his things while on the phone with a friend explaining that he needs work as far away from his location as possible. At the same time the unidentified hi-tech gun man is hiding in the room behind Peter. Astrid calls Olivia explaining that it looks as if there was a struggle at the lab.

Peter is being tortured in a similar manner that the investigator had been earlier as he explains to the man that he knows nothing. The man painfully jams wires in the nose of Peter and demand answers or Peter will feel the most immense pain he has ever felt before and turns on the machine as Peter somehow answers the question through his thoughts and knowledge of his fathers hiding spots.

The man, Peter, and crew all arrive at cemetery where the object is likely to be at.

The man finds the object and hears the incoming footsteps of arms Olivia and begins to make an escape leaving Peter behind. A fire fight begins as Peter escapes from the ropes he has been tied with. Olivia the mysterious man and disarms him with the object sitting on the ground nearby.

The object begins the vibrate rapidly and digs through the ground, disappearing with no trace of where it is heading. A deep, seemingly unending hole appears and the bald man observes in the distance. He makes a call saying the words “Departure on schedule.”

Peter attacks him from the back and begins to ask questions. The man seems to be hearing Peters thoughts saying his questions even before he can, shoots Peter and disappears, moments later Peter gets up uninjured and Olivia finds him relieved that he is not harmed.

After the evens Peter has changed his mind about leaving and signs himself out to the FBI, explaining that he now believes what is going on is real and wants to know more. He tells Olivia that the man was in the woods reading his thoughts, though he does not want to admit it claims that his father may have been correct. Olivia does not completely know if Peter is sure of what he is talking about as she did not see the eyebrow less man in the woods and Peter explains that he will not be leaving until he finds out what is really going on. She gives him access to the FBI facility as a “Civilian consultant to Homeland Security.”

Peter later tries to explain to Walter Bishop what happened to him and says that it is strange that through the torture he went through he was able to answer the question he did not believe to have the answer to and his fathers explains that ideas can be absorbed through osmosis and simply having a close connection with another indivudual.

Olivia arrives at her house, preparing a meal and some alcohol to relieve her stresses of the hectic day. Olivia turns to see none other than the back from the dead Agent Scott in her home!! He says the word “Hello” as the bowl of cereal in Olivia’s hands falls to the ground breaking into pieces concluding the breathe taking Fringe Episode 4 (s01e04).
